As a self proclaimed bookaholic, I can never seem to keep up with my ever growing TBR list. What is even more frustrating, is that because I jumped onto the fantasy-genre-bandwagon so late, there is a rather overwhelming list of book series out there that I am just dying to read! So I decided to use my “professional” list making skills and set myself a goal, by coming up with 5 fantasy book series I will focus on reading next.
(The book series that I am currently reading include Harry Potter, Shatter Me, The Lunar Chronicles and The Young Elites; so the ones I will be mentioning in this post excludes those books.)
CHAOS WALKING – PATRICK NESS: The Chaos Walking series intrigues me. And I am not going to attempt to deny that the sole reason for my eagerness to read the series is because Patrick Ness is the author. I love, love, LOVE his writing style so I have to get my grubby paws onto these books! The series consists of three books with very interesting titles; The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men, which is perfect for people like me who are slowly trying to catch up. There is nothing like the overwhelming feeling of starting a series that has seven books under the belt.
SNOW LIKE ASHES – SARA RAASCH: Most of the fantasy novels I have read so far has a strong, female warrior instead of a hero – which feeds the feminist in me – and Snow Like Ashes is no different. The blurb reminds me of The Young Elites by Marie Lu, with an oppressed kingdom and super-humans waiting in the shadows to one day reclaim their home. Also, like TYE, the series have two books out fo far; Snow Like Ashes and Ice Like Fire; which is a great place to start checking off some books from my list.
SIX OF CROWS – LEIGH BARDUGO: This book kind of reminds me of a sci-fi version of Oceans Eleven. I asked one of my favourite Bookstagrammers, Mara from Book Marauder, what her favourite fantasy books were for 2015 and this made her list, so I figured I will place it on my list too. After you have read hundreds of books, the ones that stand out for you from the blur of information you have fed your brain with, are the books I tend to grab first. Six of Crows is the only book released so far, with the sequel, Crooked Kingdom, due to be released in September 2016.
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC – V.E. SCHWAB: Another book that was recommended to me by the Book Marauder that I had my eye on for a while. I’ve heard great things about Victoria’s work and her previous book, Vicious, has been on my radar for a really long time. Her writing seems amazing from what I’ve gathered, and this book sounds different to anything that I’ve read before.
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES – SABAA TAHIR: When this book made its way onto my TBR list, it was simply because I adored the cover – THERE I said it!! But once I read the synopsis, my sudden interest in this book was all about the story. I am always fascinated by history, always eager to learn about ancient times that seem so unbelievable to me that I sometimes find hard to grasp. So mixing fantasy with history is right up my alley, and there is no way I am going to miss this read. Also, did you see that cover??
Are there any fantasy series on your list? Or is there anything you would recommend?
