When it comes to TBRs I am terrible with following through. I always get distracted and end up jumping from book to book without really completing anything from the list #bookwormproblems… Speaking of bookworm problems, my nightstand is always stacked with books that I either want to read, or am currently reading; much to the annoyance of my husband who keeps warning me that I am going to spill tea all over my beautiful paperbacks since I am the biggest klutz on the planet! Lately I’ve been very good though, and only keep two or three books that I genuinely want to read close by. These are the three books that are currently calling my little nightstand, home:
KETCHUP CLOUDS BY ANNABEL PITCHER
A few weeks ago I watched a bookstore tour on booktube by Maliemania where she and a few of her friends got together at their local bookshop and shared some of their favourite books. One of her friends chose Ketchup Clouds and I guess I thought the title was kind of cute so I remembered it. It’s strange though because I never added it to my tbr, or even planned on reading it, so when I found it hidden on one of the shelves at the Bargain Books Warehouse I grabbed it. I completely forgot what the book was about but I like reading books that are underrated favourites, and after a few pages I was hooked! Ketchup Clouds is a Young Adult, Contemporary novel about a girl who committed a terrible crime and managed to get away with it. However, when the guilt starts to catch up with her she begins writing letters to a man on death-row, hoping that a confession will help ease her conscience. The book is a compilation of all the letters she writes, and I find it really fun to read even though it focuses on a serious issue. I hope I get to finish this story before the month is through.TALON BY JULIE KAGAWA
This book has been on my wishlist for the longest time. I kept seeing it in stores but never got around to buying it because it was on the expensive side. When I found it at a ridiculously cheap price at Bargain Books Warehouse, I popped it in my shopping cart along with the sequel, Rogue. Since I started taking a liking to fantasy books I’ve managed to come by some pretty awesome magical worlds that has been a truly wonderful experience; however, I never got the chance to read about dragons. Talon is a book about a dragon girl hiding in human form, in order to fight a society of dragonslayers. As she takes on this dangerous task, she meets a boy who happens to be a soldier in the dragonslaying society and I guess they fall in love. I’m only a few pages into Talon so it’s difficult for me to say much about it. The reviews are not great but I am too excited to be bothered by this!
I AM PILGRIM BY TERRY HAYES
Another book that has been on my radar since forever and has made itself perfectly at home on my already crowded nightstand. I never really knew what this book was about (even though it was on my tbr for a very long time) until I picked it up for a very, very good price at The Storyteller’s stand at Die Kattebak Vintage Market a few weeks ago. For some reason I always thought this book was a fantasy novel, but as it turns out, it is actually a crime investigation book. It’s rather difficult to give a short summary of this book but from what I gather, it follows a series of murders around the world that all seem to link up to one crime against humanity; and a man named Pilgrim finds himself involved – though I cannot work out if he is the investigator or the one being investigated! It has been on the New York Bestseller’s list for a good long while, so I have high hopes for this one. It is a pretty massive book though so I will probably take some time to get through it.
