The Mondays just keep rolling by… But at least there’s something to look forward to, because Mondays means another Cuppa with a Book Blogger!
Before I dive into today’s post, I thought I’d let you know that my March guest post has been published up on Lavender Prose this past weekend, if you’d like to take a look! This month I chat a bit about my favourite bookish snacks, and even shared my go-to recipe for a delicious, home made iced coffee. It’s a bit more laid back than my usual post but I had such fun writing it 🙂
Anyways, back to ACwaBB. My guest today needs no introduction I’m sure, but I guess I’m inclined to share a bit about her since it’s important to be a good hostess :p I am so excited to introduce you to Cath from Bookishsmaug! I’ve been a huge fan of Cath’s Bookstagram account for a very long time, and who wouldn’t look at her photographs and think “total goals right there!”? Just look!!
Let’s go ahead and get to know Cath a bit better:
So, let’s get the obvious question out of the way – who is Cath? Tell us a bit about the book lover behind the blog.
I’d like to think that i’m a powerful fae who fights demons and slay dragons, but i’m just an ordinary 17 year old booknerd with a love for all things bookish 😀
Everyone has a story and I’m positive you do too. What inspired you to start blogging? And how did you come up with the name for your space?
I’ve always envied booktubers/book bloggers who receive free copies of books from publishers, so I started a blog to be just like them! But now blogging means SO much more to me then just promotional purposes 🙂
As for my name, I was obsessed with Benedict Cumberbatch for a while and I came across the bloopers to his Smaug scene in The Hobbit and that video became my favorite thing to watch XD It just so happens that I decided to make a Bookstagram around that time and thus was the birth of bookishsmaug!
From one book blogger to another, I know how much time goes into crafting a post that you feel comfortable enough posting for the world to see. Looking back, what was your favourite post to write?
I love book tags in general. I get to include funny gifs and be non-professional for a moment but I’m still able to express my feelings about certain books that I never get to anywhere else.
Getting a lil personal; what is your biggest achievement to date? Is there a moment you are especially proud of when you look back on all you’ve accomplished so far?
Yes! It was when I became an official book blogger for some of my favorite publishers like Allen&Unwin and Rock The Boat UK and more! 🙂
Do you have a bucket list stashed away somewhere with some daring (or more subdued) activities that you’d like to complete? Name 5 items on your list.
1. Write a book
2. Learn Japanese
3. Visit Europe!
4. (if 3 does happen) Go to Italy and drown myself in Gelatos!
5. Rescue a cat/dog
Name one of your most cherished life experiences.
When I spent Christmas with my family in Disneyland <3
What’s some of the best advice you’ve received and who was the wise human who shared this bit of wisdom with you?
“Do what you love.” – My lovely mom <3
“Hakuna Matata – it means no worries, for the rest of your days.” Do you have a motto in life? If yes, let us know what it is.
I don’t really have a motto for myself but one I like to look back to is ‘Be somebody nobody thought you could be.” 🙂
Let’s talk books for a bit… How did reading become such a big part of your life?
My whole family is a reader, so they influence me to become one too! I guess I grow to relate to the characters in books and I just learn a lot from them, so I’ve ever stopped reading since then. 🙂
What would you consider your “most reached for” genre? And is there any special reason for this preference?
Probably contemporary! Again, it’s probably because I relate to the characters so much! 🙂
On the other side of the spectrum, what genre do you hardly reach for and why?
Fantasy, Sci-fi, Dystopian. World building is a bit much for me to take in and authors who writes books in these genres tend to write really heavily written books too.
As a major book nerd, I know how overwhelming – or let’s just call it IRRITATING – it can be when someone asks you what your favourite book is because there’s never a black ‘n white answer. So here’s my question: What is your ideal ending for a book?
The most important thing to an ending is that it’s completely realistic! Also it shouldn’t be abrupt. Any characters involved at the end of a book should have some development too. 🙂
What are some of your most cherished quotes from books?
“These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.” – Matilda, Roald Dahl
What bookish franchise do you tend to fan and fawn over most?
I’d have to say Harry Potter!! <3
If you’re anything like me then you’ll have a long list of bookish pet peeves. Can you name one of your biggest bookish pet peeves?
Mismatched editions or cover changes. They irk me SO bad.
I think one of the biggest problems us bookish folk face is our never ending TBR pile that gets longer and longer no matter how many books we tick off as ‘read’. What book has been on your TBR the longest?
I’d have to say the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor >.<
Stressed Reader or Relaxed Reader?
Favourite Subject in school?
Quiet night in or a night out on the town?
Paperback or EBook?
Pretty dress or jeans and T-shirt?
Jeans and Tee 🙂
What advice do you have for your fellow book bloggers out there?
DO NOT try to be someone you’re not and just be you! Enjoy what you’re doing and have fun. Don’t stress out or it’ll be a chore for you instead. Interact with anyone you can! The bookish community is such a fun place to be, don’t miss out on the chance to make new friends!
About Bookishsmaug: A book blog filled with book reviews, movie discussions (occasionally), book tags, journaling activities and more!
