These days I’ve been really into BookTube, and I have to say that I am very much in love with that part of the internet. I can never tire of watching hauls, reviews, bookstore tours and monthly wrap ups; because obviously I want to learn as much as possible about the latest and greatest happenings in the book community. BookTube has been an incredible way for me to do this.
As a book blogger I feel it’s important to make yourself more knowledgeable concerning books so that you can be better informed about what books to recommend or put up on your space. I’ve come across some titles and authors that I never heard of before joining this community and it just makes me more passionate about books in general.
Since I started watching BookTube videos I’ve added a fairly long list of books to my TBR and I am loving the thrill of walking into a store not knowing which one of those books I’ll come across. Sometimes I’ll be unlucky and I won’t find any of the ones on my TBR, but I’ll find books by the same author or a book I heard about and want to give it a chance. It is really opening my mind to new and exciting reads and I’m having a blast searching for books to broaden my horizons.
We all have our mainstream favourites; the Sarah J Maas and Jodi Picoults of the book world which are popular for very good reasons. But it’s also important to learn about authors that you aren’t familiar with and to read books that you haven’t known about until you watched that video a few days ago. It mixes things up and gives you so much more choice. Since watching BookTube it’s become much easier for me to scout around for new books, and I love sharing them with my community.
It can be more than a little overwhelming walking into a bookstore with certain expectations and not wavering at all from your comfort zone. That’s why I find that if I make an effort to know more about what my fellow book bloggers are reading book shopping becomes even more fun. And if you’re anything like me, and you can never get bored of learning more about books then it’s a win-win situation.
These are a few BookTubers that I’ve been loving lately; and from whom I’ve found some lovely reads over the last few months:
Andrew | Okay So Booksically
When ever I watch Andrew’s videos I cannot help but burst with pride for my home country – South Africa. It is wonderful to see fellow SA booklovers out there who are just as passionate about books as I am, and when ever I visit his channel I am always left feeling uplifted and inspired to read more.
Emma | Missmareadsalot
I discovered Emma’s channel not too long ago and fell in love with her beautiful shelves that peeks out behind her in her shots. I enjoy how graceful, yet enthusiastic she is in her videos and when she really gets talking about a book all I want is to read that book. Like, right NOW. For a rather new channel she is killing it on Booktube and honestly I am not even surprised.
Gintare | Book Roast
Ginare’s channel is another new one for me but the minute I clicked on her “Fairy Loot vs. Nerdy Book Box” video I was an instant fan. She is so funny and her accent is just beautiful! I love how honest and natural she is in all her videos and I am so happy I found her on the Tube.
Malie | Maliemania
I found Malie on Bookstagram last year and adored her feed so much. When I started browsing on BookTube I immediately looked her up and I’ve been a loyal viewer ever since. I’ve found a lot of amazing book recommendations from watching her videos so I’ve really come to trust her judgement.
Nabilah | Nabibliomania
Nabilah is such a sweet heart! I can’t remember what the very first video was that I watched on her channel but I remember that I just wanted more and more. Clicking on her videos I just know I’ll be in for a fun few minutes with chuckles and good insight into the books she’s read.
Grace | Gracewithabookinherface
Grace is quite a big Booktuber so I’m sure you’ve seen her around already. Her videos are fun and filled to the brim with book talk, which I absolutely love. She is so easy to connect with because she shares a lot of herself with her viewers, so you feel as if you know her well. It’s easy for me to take recommendations from her.
Kate | GirlReading
Kate is another sweet heart on Booktube that I’ve been following for a little while. I always enjoy her TBR videos because she recommends books that I don’t hear much about anywhere else. I’m always excited when she uploads something new, and when I’m not watching her on Booktube then I’m reading her blog.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please let me know who your favourite Booktubers are, or if you have your own channel feel free to do a little shameless self promoting in the comment section below.
