There are many things that irritates me. I guess you could say that I am easily annoyed! One of these many things, is a book left partly read. It grates on my nerves to see a book left unfinished because I simply need to know how a story ends, even if I drag my feet completing it. So I went through the books on my shelf and picked out the ones that I still need to finish, and made a little pact with myself to get them done sometime this year. These are the books that I haven’t managed to complete yet:
TOKYO BY MO HAYDER: I am only a few chapters into this book and I can already tell that it is going to be a favourite. However, I keep pushing it aside. Tokyo was recommended to me by my mother, someone whose reading choices I hold in very high regard. So of course I will complete it! The only question is when… The thing about historical fiction is that as much as I love reading books from the genre, it can be emotionally overwhelming. Which is the reason I am taking so long to finish this one.
THE SONG OF ACHILLES BY MADELINE MILLER: I had this book on my tbr on Goodreads for a really long time, so when I found a copy at one of my favourite second hand bookstores last year, of course I grabbed it. I was so excited to finally have this book on my shelf, but when I started reading it eventually, I just couldn’t connect to the story. My bookmark is settled halfway through the book, and I haven’t been able to continue. Greek mythology always intrigued me, so it is a bit disappointing that I haven’t completed this book yet.
SNOW LIKE ASHES BY SARA RAASCH: Anyone who enjoys young adult and fantasy novels will have heard about Snow Like Ashes. I started reading books from the fantasy genre last year and really enjoyed the books I read up until now. So I guess I expected more from this one. I am struggling to connect to the characters and the story seems a bit over done in my opinion. I have read that Snow Like Ashes starts out slow but the story is supposed to get better as the book progresses. I really want to like this one, but I’m struggling to stick to it; which is why I haven’t continued reading.
THE DARK HEART OF FLORENCE BY MICHELE GIUTTARI: I started reading this book for the Dewey’s 24-hour Readaton last year but never got around to finishing. I guess I became more interested in the newer books I managed to find since then and never bothered picking this one up again. I’m not even sure what this book is about, so if I ever get around to reading it again I will have to start at the beginning.
ANGELS AND DEMONS BY DAN BROWN: It took me a long time to complete Digital Fortress even though I really enjoyed the story. It was the kind of book that once you start reading you cannot seem to put it down, but as soon as you stop reading it is difficult to pick it back up again. I feel the same way about Angels & Demons. Dan Brown’s books can be mentally draining. Once you think you have something figured out, he catches you off guard and turns your whole fictional world on its axis. It’s epic!!! I am actually a bit confused about why this book is even on this list to begin with.
What are some of the books you’ve left unfinished?
